Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)
(Microneedling / Microchanneling)
What is collagen induction therapy?
Microneedling and microchanneling are minimally invasive procedures also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT) which stimulate production of collagen, reduce wrinkles, and improve acne scars.
Exceed™ by Candela and ProCell™ are professional grade microneedling and microchanneling devices, respectively, which work by creating controlled micro-punctures into the skin with small sterile needles. This stimulates your body’s own natural ability to generate new healthy skin.
To accelerate healing and optimize results, these procedures are combined with either professional medical grade growth factor solutions from AnteAge® or Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF), which comes from your own blood.

How does it work?
Microneedling or Microchanneling (CIT) procedures are performed with an electric medical grade device that contains very fine, short, sterile needles which create tiny punctures (at varying predetermined depths) in the skin. This stimulates the body's natural healing process and promotes collagen production. CIT stimulates your body’s ability to generate new healthy skin naturally rather than destructive and inflammatory techniques by other treatments in the aesthetic industry. CIT is used to address skin laxity, fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, stretch marks, and skin discolorations on face, neck, decolletage, chest, hands or body.
Microneedling / Microchanneling Devices
The Exceed is the first and only dual-indicated, FDA cleared
medical microneedling system for the treatment of both wrinkles
and facial acne scar reduction.
In clinical studies;
-
90% of patients saw improvement in facial wrinkles and
-
78% patients saw an improvement in perioral wrinkles in just 90 days
-
86% reported significant improvement in their acne scars
-
88% of patients reported they would recommend the treatment to family and friends
The ExceedTM device is manufactured by a global leader in microneedling in Germany known for high quality engineering for professional use. Using the sharpest medical grade sterile stainless steel needles minimizes epidermal trauma and reduces down time.

Not all microneedling / microchanneling devices are created equal. There are many out there that are poorly made resulting in weak motors, needles that are dull, barbed, or contaminated and made out of harmful toxic metals which can potentially cause infections, allergic reactions and scarring. As such, it is imperative that a high quality professional device is utilized for this procedure by a properly trained provider.
After much consideration and extensive research the following microneedling and microchanneling devices are available at Reniu MedSpa:

The ProCell Microchanneling device and is similar to
microneedling however it delivers micro channels to
the skin by a stamping motion using small wire-based
filaments as opposed to a gliding motion with traditional
microneedling.
It is a less invasive way to activate the stem cells in the
epidermis, and stimulates new and natural collagen
production. There may be less pain associated with
the procedure depending on the length of wire filaments used to deliver skin channels. This may be a better option for those with more sensitive skin, darker skin tones more susceptible to scarring, or those requiring larger treatment areas for scarring. The ProCell device was developed by a dermatologist and is proudly made in the USA.
Choice of device can be further discussed with the provider at time of consultation.
CIT Combination Treatments
CIT (microneedling / microchanneling) is combined with one of the following two treatments to optimize results.
-
Serums containing growth factors enhance skin renewal. Growth factor serums used at Reniu are by AnteAGE®. Research has shown that stem cells play an important role in tissue repair. AnteAGE® pioneered the science of reactivating the skins natural regenerative properties by utilizing stem and growth factor cytokines derived from human bone marrow, the most natural and powerful option to restore youthful skin. The scientists behind AnteAge® have harnessed the healing power of stem cells to regain your skin’s ability to behave youthfully and beautifully. By supporting cellular renewal and regeneration, growth factors improve skin firmness, elasticity, texture, and tone. They can also diminish scarring, fine lines, and wrinkles leaving skin looking bright and healthy.
-
PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) or PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). This procedure involves drawing your own blood then spinning it in a centrifuge to isolate a fibrin matrix or plasma. This fibrin matrix/plasma is applied directly on the skin during and after treatment to promote healing, stimulate collagen and elastin resulting in healthy youthful skin. At Reniu, PRF is used as it is has shown to contain more concentrated growth factors that are released over a longer period of time compared to PRP. In addition, PRF is a more natural way to deliver growth factors to the skin as there are no additives or chemicals used to prepare it as opposed to PRP.
Deciding on which product (Growth serum vs PRF) to use during your CIT can be further discussed at time of consultation.
Illuminate Red LED light therapy pairs perfectly with your
CIT procedure.
It reduces inflammation, improves blood flow and boosts
cell function to improve healing, produce and reduce fine
lines and wrinkles. Illuminate has 1800 LEDS of red light
delivering recommended energy in 5 minutes.

All patients are sent home with post needling instructions and product recommendations and/or post care kit to optimize results.

This can be discussed further during your consultation.

In addition, the use of cannulas, which are blunt round devices, instead of needles to place filler results in much less tissue trauma which significantly decreases pain, swelling and bruising. In some cases, needles are still used when precision is required, however topical numbing agents and vibrating devices can be used to decrease discomfort

You may also experience some peeling several days post procedure. Although these symptoms may take 2-7 days to resolve completely, they should diminish within a few hours after treatment
-
Who is not a good candidate?Poor candidacy includes patients who are pregnant, or patients with poorly controlled diabetes, active herpes/cold sores in treatment area, any condition causing a suppressed immune system (active cancer, autoimmune disease, use of autoimmune medications), active cystic acne, open skin wounds, skin infections, sun burn, or other active skin condition in the treatment area. Current or recent (within 6 months) use of Accutane®, extremely dry/cracked skin, or allergy to steel lead to poor candidacy. Neurotoxins and fillers can be used 2 weeks prior to or 2 weeks after your CIT procedure
-
How long does it take?About 60 minutes. If numbing and PRF used treatment time may be longer
-
How many treatments will I need?Depends to skin quality and treatment goals. Many people see great results in as little as one treatment. Optimal results require 3-6 treatments spaced one month apart then, 1-2 treatments per year for maintenance. Number of treatments can be further discussed and determined with provider at time of consultation
-
Is there anything I do to prepare for treatment? If you are on blood thinners such as Aspirin or high dose no-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDS) you should stop them 10 days prior to treatment. If you have a history of cold sores you may need pre-treatment with antiviral medications. Also discontinue topical vitamin A/Retinoids or other skin irritants 5 days prior to treatment
-
Is it painful? There is some discomfort depending on needle depth used. Numbing cream can be used although it is not always necessary
